New Program for 2026

Girls on Wheels: Ride for Fun

Are you a teenage girl or know a teenage girl who has MTB experience but no-one to ride with? Girls on Wheels is for YOU!

Girls on Wheels is a social and semi-instructional group ride for people who identify as female or non-binary between the ages of 12-17 years. Riders need to be experienced, have already taken instructional programs or clinics (with any coach), know the basics (body position, braking, shifting, climbing, descending, cornering, trail awareness, etc.) well and are just looking to get out, ride, and have fun.

Rides are led by certified Instructors and sweeps with clean RCMP Criminal Record checks.

Girls on Wheels is for meeting trail pals and getting to know the YEG River Valley single track without the pressure to perform.

Girls on Wheels Groups include:

  • Swag! (socks or water bottle)

  • 5 months of rides

  • Additional skill development opportunities

Girls on Wheels - Program FAQs

Who is this program for?

Girls on Wheels is for experienced riders (ages 12–17) who identify as female or nonbinary and want to ride in a fun, social group.

What skill level is required?

This program is best suited for Intermediate riders and up. Riders should be comfortable:

  • Riding varied terrain

  • Keeping pace with a group

  • Navigating trails independently

Is this an instructional program?

No, Girls on Wheels is not instructional for the 2026 season. If your rider is still developing their skills or would benefit from coaching, we recommend enrolling in one of the youth instructional riding programs available in Edmonton.

What is the focus?

The focus of Girls on Wheels is to create a supportive, confidence-building space where girls can develop their mountain biking skills, ride consistently, and feel part of a team.

It’s less about formal instruction and more about:

  • Building confidence on the bike

  • Progressing skills through regular riding

  • Encouraging independence and decision-making on trails

  • Creating strong peer connections and a sense of belonging

  • Keeping it fun, active, and empowering

At its core, it’s about helping girls become capable, confident riders in a positive and inclusive environment.

How do you communicate?

We use Stack Team App for ride updates, attendance tracking and cancellations. Riders are expected to mark attendance in advance to support planning.

What if a ride is missed or cancelled?

  • No reimbursements for missed or cancelled rides

  • We aim to run all scheduled rides whenever possible

When are rides cancelled?

We cancel only when necessary for safety, including smoke, lightning or severe storms. We may also cancel if conditions are too unpleasant (heavy rain, extreme temperatures). Cancellations are communicated via the Stack Team App, typically by 5:00 PM on ride day.

Do you ride in the rain?

Yes, we often ride in wet conditions. When needed, we may adjust routes to protect the trails and ride on paved or gravel trails.

Attendance expectations

Attendance is flexible, but riders are requested to update their availability in the Stack Team App to help us plan safe and enjoyable rides.
