Experience
I got into mountain biking because of a boy; he loved to ride and I loved him so I tagged along. I quickly realized that riding a bike fast downhill can be scary as hell but so much fun. My first big trip was to Invermere with a bunch of people that knew what they were doing. Their best advice was “follow me!”. That was about 15 years ago (or more); I’m still in love with him and mountain biking so it worked out. I try to get out as much as possible, which is usually 1-3 times a week. if it wasn’t for the need to work for a living it would be more often!!
Reason for Being Part of WOW
I got involved with WOW to meet and ride with other women. Riding with other women is a different experience than when you are riding with ‘just the boys’. I volunteered to be a sweep on WoW rides and loved being part of the team. Nat encouraged me to do my Level One coaching course through BICP; it was tough but so much fun. I am just learning the ropes of coaching but seeing another rider conquer a new skill or section of the trail is the best; I am just happy to be part of their experience.
Coaching Style
I enjoy breaking down skills into manageable pieces and showing people what they can do to make things go smoother. My goal when coaching is to help people gain confidence and have fun!
Favorite Mountain Biking Destination
If I could ride in the mountains everyday I would be the happiest human on the planet! I have been fortunate to ride a lot in BC and Alberta; my favorite places to ride are Crowsnest Pass, Fernie and Valemount.
Favorite Trail in Edmonton
We are really fortunate to have such a great trail system in our river valley. My favourites are Old Timers and Mill Creek areas.
Personal Goal for the Season
I hope to figure out what my coaching style truly is because it is so new at this point. I want to be able to help other riders enjoy the experience; if they are smiling at the end of the trail I know it was alright! My personal goal for this season is to go faster and ride longer distances.
