Experience
I got started with mountain biking as a transition from competitive sport (biathlon). I had to channel that energy into something else and mountain biking was a perfect fit. I love the opportunity to try new skills, work on technique and to spend my time continually learning and progressing.
Reason for Being Part of WOW
It is such a great, welcoming and relaxed group! I have very much enjoyed every ride that I’ve led, swept or simply have been a part of. I spent some time coaching competitive sport and in my professional life I have quite a bit of experience instructing a variety of outdoor-based activities. It seemed like a great next step to apply my instructional skills and give back to the women’s mountain bike community. I love the opportunity to share the amazing trail system we have here in Edmonton’s river valley. I am also excited to meet new people, see some familiar faces and just go ride!
Favorite Mountain Biking Memory or Destination
I absolutely love riding in Fernie! The trails really work well to my skill level and there are just so many amazing options. I find myself improving so much after a trip there.
Favorite Trail in Edmonton
Maybe not my favourite, but definitely my go-to for a quick ride. I enjoy riding the Oleskiw trails, and it is probably one of the best spots for fat biking in the city. Oleskiw has some very winding trails, so I think about my cornering skills. Once I hit Logarithmic, I get to practice log roll-overs. Otherwise, my favourite trail seems to change as my skills progress with each year - some past favs have been Raven, Six Shooter, Flat Pete, Silver Fox. I’ll be interested to see what I have the most fun with this season.
Personal Goal for the Season
I find rooty, steep climbs challenging. I hope to overcome my hesitation and practice them this season. As for the fitness side of things, I think there are some massive mountain climbs in my plans for the summer and hope to get out riding a bunch so the legs will be ready to go. Also at the end of those uphills, there are some fun downhills! From a coaching perspective, I love to learn from other coaches and hope to pick up some tips and tricks along the way this season.
