Experience

I’ve been riding for around 16 years but I’d say I’ve known what I was doing for half those years. My first experience on a mountain bike wasn’t great - I had no idea what I was doing but somehow survived the mountain.  A friend took me under her wing and taught me sweet skills for mtb. I’ve continued learning skills and riding and eventually realized I’d like to share the knowledge and love for the sport!

Reason for Being Part of WOW

In 2013, Amy and I had been trying to get a spot in Dirt Girls but it was so popular and filled up quick. We realized the need for another group so we hooked our wagon to Hardcore Bikes as an extension of the shop’s cycling club. Our goal was to offer the uber beginner a social group ride to learn how to survive on the trails together. Over these nine years we have grown from a half dozen women once a week to over twenty showing up consistently to becoming coaches and transitioning to an ABA affiliated recreational club.

Every week I look forward to seeing the riders and teaching them new skills to build on previous lessons. The best part are the lightbulb moments or the “ah ha!” gasps when they nail it. I love love love showing off our river valley singletrack too. “I loved that trail” is music to my ears.

Coaching Style

I’m very patient when teaching. There is a specific way to teach the skill but everyone learns differently. I can adapt to your learning style and take the time needed so you get your “ah ya!” moment. I love coaching new riders most. We’ve all been there; unsure of ourselves and the sport and even a little bit scared. My goals are for the student to take something positive away with them whether it’s nailing a climb or realizing they are in control of their bikes.

Favorite Mountain Biking Memory or Destination

My favourite place is to be on my bike it doesn’t matter where I am. I have lots of memories of grand mountain resorts, tucked away cross country and trails in Edmonton. I’d really love to go to Andorra sometime though.

Favorite Trail in Edmonton

My most favourite trail is Blue Man Group. It’s in our logo!!  This trail was built by a special guy and it’s excellent for racing a PR or working on slow speed skills to find new lines and improve balance.

Personal Goal for the Season

My goals for the season are to keep my bloody feet on the pedals when I ride flats (yes, seriously) and conquer a few drops I’ve been eyeing up.
